DOD to Use Rekor's Vehicle Recognition Software

The U.S. Department of Defense is purchasing vehicle recognition software from Columbia, Maryland-based Rekor Systems, Inc., which specializes in roadway artificial intelligence-based platforms. Under the $160,000 license purchase, DOD will deploy the software to existing cameras to support national security efforts, the company announced on June 22. The software can identify in real time vehicle license plate data, along with the color, make, model and body type of vehicles.

“When it comes to national security, the Department of Defense has exacting standards,” said Robert Berman, president and CEO of Rekor. “Knowing the wide range of solutions they have at their disposal, we are pleased they are continuing to expand their use of Rekor’s best-in-class, machine learning and artificial intelligence-based vehicle recognition software.”
