Leonardo to Supply AEGIS System Hardware and Support to the Navy
Arlington, Virginia-based Leonardo DRS, Inc. announced recently that the company would be supplying critical system hardware and performing full life-cycle support for the U.S. Navy’s AEGIS and Ship Self Defense System Combat Management Systems. The Navy awarded the company a part of the cost-plus-fixed-fee and firm-fixed-price, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity multiple award contract that is worth up to $211.5 million, in order to obtain the technical insertion of the system hardware.
Under the effort, Leonardo will provide sustainment, manufacture, assembly and testing of TI-16 hardware and spares, as well as perform engineering services, procurement and installation of ordinance alteration kits and related products, the company reported. As for the sustainment piece, the company will manage the life-cycle support of the TI-16 combat systems processing, network, storage and display hardware, which is fielded across the Navy’s surface ship fleet.
As a prime contractor for the Surface Navy, Leonardo produces consoles, displays and peripherals and the common processing system for the Navy’s combatant ships.
“We are excited about this award and proud to provide full life-cycle combat system hardware support to ensure fleet readiness remains high,” said Tracy Howard, senior vice president and general manager of the Leonardo DRS Naval Electronics business."
Work for the contract will be performed at Leonardo’s Laurel Technologies facilities in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, and Chesapeake, Virginia, the company indicated.
