The Military Selects MetTel and Sprint to Provide Wireless Communication Services and Devices
Sprint Communications Co. L.P., doing business as Sprint, Reston, Virginia (N00244-19-D-0013); and Manhattan Telecommunications Corp., doing business as MetTel, New York, New York (N00244-19-D-0014), are awarded an estimated $993,500,000 indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity, firm-fixed-price contract for wireless services and devices in support of the Navy, Marine Corps, Army, Air Force, other Department of Defense agencies, and federal agencies. The contract will include a base period, September 30 to November 7, 2019, due to an on-ramp to the existing Spiral 3 Wireless Services multi-agency contracts. The awards have three one-year option periods which if exercised, would make the total value of the contract $993,500,000.
Work is expected to be completed by November 2019; if all options are exercised, work will be completed by November 2022. Work will be performed at various locations throughout the U.S. and percentage of work cannot be determined at this time. Annual fiscal year operations and maintenance (Navy) funds in the amount of $10,000 will be obligated ($5,000 on each of the two contracts to fund the contracts’ minimum amounts), and funds will expire at the end of the current fiscal year. The contract resulted from a full and open competitive solicitation, with two offers received. Naval Supply Systems Command Fleet Logistics Center San Diego, San Diego, California, is the contracting activity, according to a DOD contract posting.
Under the award, MetTel can provide wireless mobile cellular services and devices, including non-desktop, non-laptop and small form factor wireless end-user devices including hardware (i.e. handsets, tablets, wireless modems such as air cards and associated wireless mobile cellular service) to the Defense Department as well as federal civilian agencies throughout the United States, according to a company statement. MetTel provides flexible access to the larger carrier networks under a single enterprise plan, as well as offering support services that range from staging, kitting and procurement, to security and mobile device management with advanced robotic process automation.
