EPIC Speaker Series Explores Intelligence and Congress

The Emerging Professionals in Intelligence Committee (EPIC), one of AFCEA’s services to young professionals, sponsors its first speaker series event that will delve into congressional funding practices.

As part of the association’s outreach to increase the number of young members, the AFCEA Intelligence Department features the Emerging Professionals in Intelligence Committee (EPIC). The group comprises approximately 50 members under the age of 40 that all work in intelligence-related positions in the government or in the private sector.

EPIC is holding an outreach effort on April 23, 2013, from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Capitol Visitor Center, Washington, D.C. Called the EPIC Speaker Series: Intelligence for Young Professionals, this free session on intelligence and Congress will feature congressional staffers on the Intelligence, Armed Services and Appropriations committees who will talk about how Congress funds and oversees the intelligence community. Among the topics covered will be descriptions of the difference between authorizations and appropriations and how each affects the intelligence community; how committee members learn about the intelligence community; and how committees deal with overlaps in jurisdiction with other committees.

The event is limited to the first 100 people who register online. More information about this EPIC Speaker Series session, including directions and contact information, is available online. Subsequent events in the series will explore how intelligence relates to other topical areas.
