Aerospace Innovator To Launch Combat Cloud Accelerator
Starburst Aerospace announced on June 4 a collaboration with Airbus Defence and Space to bring capabilities in aid of Europe’s Next Generation Weapon System 2040.
Their new joint program, called the Combat Cloud Accelerator, is designed to pull in industry solutions from Germany, France and Spain for the Future Combat Air System, which is part of the Next Generation Weapon System 2040 effort.
The Future Combat Air System, according to Airbus, will meld piloted and unmanned airborne capabilities, along with other systems in the air, space, sea, cyber and ground via the data cloud, the Combat Cloud.
Specifically, the organizations aim to help integrate artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, supercomputing, radio frequency communication, optical communication, photonics and other disruptive combat cloud technologies, according to an announcement from Taufkirchen, Germany, from Starburst Accelerator, which is based in Paris and Los Angeles.
“Set to launch in July 2024, the accelerator program targets small and medium-sized enterprises and startups, fostering the development of dual-use and defense applications,” Starburst stated in the announcement.
The goal of the Combat Cloud Accelerator is to develop dual-use technologies—for the military and commercial sector—with European startup companies.
“Integrating non-traditional innovators into the defense ecosystem is key to advancing the Future Combat Air System,” Starburst indicated. “This accelerator program will bring disruptive technologies into the Combat Cloud, ensuring seamless connectivity and enhanced capabilities for the future of European defense operations.”
