Encrypted Data Prevails in Innovation Showcase
A technology that provides network-wide encryption throughout the existence of its information was identified as the winner of the latest AFCEA Innovation Showcase. The competition was the second in a series of individual competitions running into the fall.
Tunnel VUE Inc., Montgomery, Alabama, won the competition with its CoreVUE system. Nicholas Edwards, the founder of Tunnel Vue, described the system as an overlay of several technologies to improve encryption. Whenever a new device comes up, the session key and packet key are automatically changed each time. It does not use key exchange, public key infrastructure (PKI) or asymmetric encryption. Users only have to watch one single point at any time, and they can audit every part in the network.
The company calls CoreVUE “a revolutionary post-quantum encryption key manager.” It wraps every packet in an encrypted session, beginning with the first, with a separately established, unique key for each session. No human intervention is required for key management, distribution, storage or usage.
In what the judges described as a very close competition, Tunnel Vue nosed out two other firms and their technologies. Robert Stewart Jr., president and CEO of Federal Government Experts (FGE), presented a case for his company’s rapid acquisition facilitation tool (RAFT), which allows a customer to perform a requirements analysis and definition regardless of what it is buying. And Robert Osbourne, the CEO of Impres Technology Solutions Inc., described how his company’s technology removes IP addresses to protect against intrusion.
The next AFCEA Innovation Showcase will be held September 20.
