Karen Tavarez has distinguished herself as a dedicated and impactful leader within AFCEA through the role as the Belvoir Chapter’s events chair, where she has taken on a central role in ensuring the success of chapter programming.

In collaboration with the chapter’s registrar, Tavarez has supported the full coordination, planning and execution of events that serve as the backbone of chapter engagement, including all 2025 luncheons, the 2024 holiday event, spring 2025 golf tournament and AFCEA Belvoir Industry Days.

Her leadership and initiative have been instrumental in elevating the visibility, quality and professionalism of these programs, whether by designing and producing promotional materials, flyers, banners and handouts; assisting with registration, check-in and Eventbrite monitoring; or stepping in to ensure that day-of logistics ran smoothly and efficiently.

These contributions reflect not only strong organizational and management skills but also superior technical ability in digital promotion, event coordination platforms and design, which have significantly enhanced the overall experience for attendees and strengthened the chapter’s outreach to both members and prospective members.

Beyond these tangible achievements, Tavarez has had a meaningful impact on the AFCEA community by consistently volunteering her time and energy for high-profile chapter events, ensuring that every program is executed to the highest standard while reinforcing AFCEA’s mission of bringing together professionals in information technology, communications and defense.

In doing so, Tavarez has also provided mentorship by setting an example of reliability, professionalism and initiative, encouraging peers and Emerging Leaders to get more deeply involved and demonstrating how service and leadership at the chapter level can have a lasting effect on both individuals and the broader AFCEA community.
