New One-Stop Shop Connecting Public and Private Sectors

The DoD Digital OnRamp tool will give industry officials a better look at how they can best serve the military.

Department of Defense (DoD) officials are unveiling plans to create their Digital OnRamp platform. The tool will offer industry leaders a more in-depth look at where their capabilities can be used to fill voids within the military, according to Devon Bistarkey, Defense Innovation Unit.

More specifically, military officials can use the DoD Digital OnRamp capability to list their technological needs and simultaneously call on businesses for their help in satisfying their demands. Meanwhile, in the eyes of industry officials, the platform will be a sole destination for leaders in the private sector to understand the specific needs of the military and to develop capabilities based on those needs.

OnRamp will feature AI-powered search tools to allow business personnel to receive immediate feedback when exploring for possible matches, Bistarkey said in a press release

The one-stop shop program will provide for clearer communication and more transparency between the executive branch and private businesses. Furthermore, OnRamp will ideally expedite the process of getting new capabilities into the hands of the warfighter. The tool will accomplish this by eliminating the need for private sector leaders to conduct their own research to determine the needs of the military, saving them a significant amount of time.

The program will also take matters into its own hands by sending new technological opportunities directly to private sector employees. This proactive approach will alert those in industry rather than counting on them to explore the database on their own, saving additional time.

Additionally, OnRamp’s all-in-one database gives warfighters and industry officials alike a convenient and easily accessible research option. Users will only need one account and to become familiar with a single website interface, according to Bistarkey.

The database will also keep track of existing industry capabilities that will allow military leaders to easily search to see if their needs are already met, Bistarkey added.

Defense Innovation Unit personnel are looking over data that they collected when they put OnRamp on display in December 2024. Once completed, they will begin creating requirements for crews who will deliver the minimum viable product later this year, according to Bistarkey.
