Japan Purchases Advanced Undersea Warfare Capabilities

Lockheed Martin Mission Systems and Training, Manassas, Virginia, is being awarded a $40,761,140 cost-plus-incentive-fee and cost-type modification to a previously awarded contract (N00024-13-C-5225) to exercise a one-year option for engineering services, travel and other direct costs for AN/SQQ-89A surface ship undersea warfare systems. The AN/SQQ-89A is a surface ship undersea warfare systems combat system with the capabilities to search, detect, classify, localize and track undersea contacts, in order to engage and evade submarines, mine-like small objects and torpedo threats. The contract is for development, integration and production of future advanced capability build and technical insertion baselines of the AN/SQQ-89A(V)15. This contract combines purchases for the Navy (66.76 percent) and the government of Japan (33.24 percent) under the Foreign Military Sales program. Work will be performed in Manassas, Virginia, and is expected to be completed by May 2017. Fiscal 2015 and 2016 research development test and evaluation (Navy); fiscal 2016 shipbuilding and conversion (Navy); fiscal 2014, 2015, and 2016 other procurement (Navy); fiscal 2016 operation and maintenance (Navy); and foreign military sales funds in the amount of $35,740,015 will be obligated at the time of award, and funding in the amount of $2,344,341 will expire at the end of the current fiscal year. The Naval Sea Systems Command, Washington, D.C., is the contracting activity.
