In early April, the Southern New England Chapter's Valerie Arris, U.S. Coast Guard Research and Development Center, came to the aid of one of her chapter's Young AFCEANs. In an email sent to the president of the San Francisco Chapter and the Northern California regional vice president, Arris explained that a local U.S. Coast Guard Academy graduate was coming to serve at Coast Guard Island near San Francisco. She stated, “Please extend AFCEA's arm of welcome to this talented ENS as he transitions to the USCG fleet.” In September, Ensign Ryan Hub, USCG, arrived in the Bay Area, and the chapter president and regional vice president invited him to a “welcome aboard” dinner. From East Coast to West Coast, AFCEA provides great value in assisting members. The chapter looks forward integrating Ensign Hub into its activities when he is not out at sea on a mission. Hub's ship, the USCG Stratton, intercepted a semi-submersible vessel in July loaded with approximately 16,000 pounds of cocaine. ... READ MORE

SAN FRANCISCO CHAPTER - 04/25/2007
During the April meeting, Dan Washington, chapter president, was honored with an AFCEA Headquarters 25 Year Leadership Recognition Award for his longstanding support as a chapter officer. Bob Landgraf, regional vice president, presented the award to Washington and his wife Lois, saying that without her Washington's level of dedciation could not have been accomplished.
