SOUTH FLORIDA CHAPTER CHAPTER - Jul 18, 2009

In July the chapter's Young AFCEANs toured Disney World to learn about the technology used by the amusement park. Biometric fingerprint scans are used as a security measure to activate park entrance tickets. Tunnels called utilidores (utility corridors) connect areas of the amusement park and allow cast members to navigate the park underground without being seen. Uniforms are bar-coded for tracking. The automated vacuum system uses compressed air to move garbage through pipes at 60 miles per hour. Most rides and park music and sounds are controlled from a secret central processing location, but the need for centralization is decreasing as computers become smaller and more efficient.
