THE HAGUE CHAPTER CHAPTER - Aug 20, 2009 |
The topic for the chapter's August meeting was the Dutch government's computer emergency response team, called GOVCERT.NL. Elly van den Heuvel, general manager of GOVCERT.NL, served as a keynote speaker. She shared that the organization's main tasks are to act as a central emergency point when dealing with information and communications technology-related security incidents. The organization also coordinates relevant information to the appropriate parties and assists government officials in preventing and responding to security incidents. GOVCERT.NL focuses on three core areas: prevention, knowledge sharing and problem solving. Eelco Stofbergen, a senior adviser at GOVCERT.NL, shared 10 common trends in cybercrime, including weak infrastructure and vulnerable software. He noted that "hacktivism" has become a fixed part of information security. Stofbergen and Aart Jochem, manager of GOVCERT.NL's Knowledge Center, concluded the presentation by demonstrating botnet capabilities. |
