NORTH CAROLINA CHAPTER CHAPTER - Aug 11, 2009 |
The chapter held its 31st Annual Technical Conference and Exposition in August. The theme was "Securing Our Nation Through Information Technology." The event provides an opportunity for military personnel, U.S. Defense Department employees and contractors, and industry members to share ideas on the latest advances in technology. Jerry R. Stidham, director of the U.S. Army Network Enterprise Center, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and chapter president, presided over the event. He emphasized the importance of enhancing information technology capabilities in order to stay ahead of adversaries. Maj. Gen. Curtis M. Scaparrotti, USA, commander, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, and Command Sgt. Maj. Thomas Capel, USA, 82nd Airborne Division, spoke during one of the luncheons via videoconferencing. They stressed the importance of quick responses to requirements from warfighters. Lt. Gen. Jeffrey A. Sorenson, USA, chief information officer/G-6, Headquarters Department of the Army, served as another distinguished speaker. The chapter contributed more than $50,000 this past year to local scholarships, Science Teaching Tools Awards, soldier support activities and other community programs. |
