Exposition Features Air Force Technology

The chapter sponsored the Information Challenges 2010 Conference and Exposition in June with support from the Griffiss Institute and participation from the Air Force Research Laboratory and it's Information Institute. Coordinators held the first two days of the event at the Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica, New York, and it wrapped up with one final day at the Griffiss Institute in Rome, New York.

The event explored challenges and research opportunities in information systems and technology for U.S. Air Force and Defense Department applications, and it included an exposition on emerging technologies in information science. Each morning led off with a plenary session, which provided nearly 340 attendees the opportunity to hear several addresses by senior Air Force leaders and Air Force Research Laboratory senior staff on future challenges and research opportunities in information technology. During the afternoons, attendees participated in parallel technical sessions in mini-workshop format. The workshops enabled a technical dialog between contractors, government representatives and academics from the Information Institute. These dialogues included Air Force Research Laboratory staff and aimed to identify promising collaborations and approaches to information technology problems.

Attendees also participated in a workshop on Air Force technology transfer (T2) and the overall objectives for T2, processes for success, partnership intermediaries and the protection of intellectual property. The final day of the conference focused on small business innovative research topics for 2010.
