SAN DIEGO CHAPTER CHAPTER - Jul 20, 2010 |
Students Receive Scholarship Awards |
In July, the chapter distributed more than $35,000 in scholarships to local students. A total of 122 scholarship applications were received this year: 23 applications for the William E. "Buck" Bragunier Scholarship for Outstanding Leadership (20 high school and 3 college applicants) and a total of 99 applications for the San Diego $8,000 Scholarship (90 high school and 9 college applicants). The chapter established the Bragunier Scholarship for Outstanding Leadership to honor Bragunier's memory and unique contributions to the chapter and the association. Bragunier devoted more than 20 years to AFCEA International and the San Diego military community. He passed away in May 2004. AFCEA International awards $2,000 annually to one competitively selected and deserving college student attending an accredited college or university. This year, the Bragunier Scholarship went to Kuba J. Wasowski, who recently completed his undergraduate bachelor's degree in social science in communication from California State University-San Marcos. He is now attending San Diego State University to achieve a master's degree in homeland security. The chapter awarded him the Bragunier Scholarship for his four years of service in the U.S. Marine Corps from 2000 to 2004, along with his aim to serve the U.S. in national security when he graduates. |
