Joint Basing Becomes Reality |
In September, chapter members gathered for a luncheon to hear from the joint military communications community serving at Elmendorf Air Force Base and Fort Richardson on "The State of Armed Forces Communications in Alaska." Lt. Col. Charles Parker, USA, chapter president, provided the opening remarks and information on the capabilities and future missions of 59th Signal Battalion, as the transition to joint basing in Alaska becomes a reality (Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson activated on October 1). Lt. Col. Mike Brown, USA, J-6 Alaska Command, provided an overview of the joint and interagency communications plan for Alaska. Lt. Col. John Woyte, USA, deputy chief of staff information management, Alaska Army National Guard, provided information on the communications capabilities of the Army National Guard throughout Alaska. The meeting provided the members a clearer understanding of the joint and interagency military communications capabilities and opportunities throughout the region. |
