ORLANDO-CENTRAL FLORIDA CHAPTER CHAPTER - Oct 20, 2010

Scientist on Technology Dependence

The chapter hosted Dr. Michael R. Macedonia, vice president and chief scientist for Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC), as its October luncheon speaker. In presenting his views on the current cyber challenges concerning the government and industry, he addressed the impact the modeling and simulation industry can have in addressing these problems. Macedonia drew on his experience with Forterra Federal Systems, which was acquired by SAIC; his work as a senior national intelligence executive and the director of the Disruptive Technology Office for the Office of the Director of National Intelligence; and his role as the chief technology officer for the U.S. Army Program Executive Office for Simulation, Training and Instrumentation. He addressed the nation's total dependence on information technology, which dominates everyday living, including cell and smart phones that are prevalent even in the most remote parts on the world. He discussed how to control critical infrastructure and government networks. Steve Painter, chapter president, reminded the attendees of the chapter's upcoming TechNet Orlando Warfighter Conference in January.
