UK SOUTHERN CHAPTER CHAPTER - Jan 20, 2011 |
Integrating Engineering Capabilities |
In January, the chapter held its first meeting of the year at HMS Collingwood in Hampshire. The topic was "Integrating Capability: Joining the Dots,” presented by Steve Hyde, head of the Systems Engineering and Integration Group, Defense Equipment and Support, Ministry of Defence. Hyde gave a comprehensive description of his group's efforts and progress towards achieving the cultural transformations necessary to develop an effective “system of systems” approach. He drew the distinction between mere additive capabilities and the integrated capabilities that are necessary in an era of stringent defense spending constraints and ever more sophisticated threats. Hyde summarized the mission as deriving clarity and purpose from complexity and then fielded questions from the audience. |
