The chapter organized a one-day conference on “Electronic Monitoring Services for Identification and Control of Borders.” Grigorious Tasoulas, secretary general of public order of the Ministry of Citizen Protection, opened the event, which was held at the Armed Forces Officers Club. The conference covered three topics, which were detailed in analytical briefings presented by subject matter experts: technological developments and the requirement for convening military and civilian security electronic monitoring systems; electronic surveillance systems; and electronic identification and the related legal issues. More than 150 attendees from the three armed forces branches, the police, the coast guard, academia and industry participated in the conference and intervened with comments and remarks. |
