Students Honored at Appreciation Event |
In July, the chapter awarded $10,000 in academically based scholarships to assist students from the Augusta-Fort Gordon regional area who are pursuing a four-year college education in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). The chapter presented the scholarship awards during an AFCEA Member Appreciation Night held at the Augusta GreenJackets baseball game. Nearly 70 AFCEA members and their families attended the event and observed the award ceremony organized by Horace Carney, chapter vice president of education and scholarships, and Chuck Kelleher, chapter vice president of membership. The competitive scholarships were awarded to four college students pursuing STEM degrees and five high school students accepted to college to pursue a STEM degree. The college winners were Elizabeth Crute (top honor), Nathan Damen, Katherine Picciano and Matthew Sheen. The high school winners were Benjamin Stewart (top honor), Jackson Kicklighter, Erin Lightfoot, Alyssa Mullikin and Cathryn Schrader. |
