Students Compete in Cyber Defense

In September, the chapter hosted a cyber defense competition in Buenos Aires, Argentina, funded by an AFCEA Educational Foundation Chapter Initiatives Grant. Eight cadets from military high schools across the country competed in the event, which aimed to inspire today's youth to become the cyber defenders of tomorrow. The competition took place at the Army Technical College. It served to verify the ability of cadets to defend against external hostile attacks in a simulated network. Coordinators included Capt. Horacio Chimenti Riquelme, ARA (Ret.), chapter board member; Gabriel Sanchez Barbeito, chapter board member; and Juan C. Fondevila Sancet, regional vice president for South America. In addition, the event assistants were Mayor Luis Fumagalli, EA (Ret.), Army University, and Mariano Pancaldi, infrastructure head of the dto-latam company. The chapter announced the winner in November, who will go to Buenos Aires to receive a prize.
