ORLANDO-CENTRAL FLORIDA CHAPTER CHAPTER - Aug 04, 2011 |
Transition to IPv6 |
In August, the chapter partnered with the Central Florida International Test and Evaluation Association to host Josh Stephens, vice president of technology and head geek of SolarWinds. Stephens advised attendees that Vivek Kundra, the federal chief information officer, issued a mandate requiring that by the end of fiscal year 2012, all external sites must be IPv6 compliant, and by the end of fiscal year 2014, internal client applications must also be IPv6 compliant. With the last free IPv4 addresses officially issued by the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority in February 2011, it is no wonder that information technology managers are in a scramble. Stephens went into detail on how organizations and companies can start planning their IPv6 transition and what information technology managers need to know about IPv6 today. |
