The chapter's August luncheon was ‎held in conjunction with the U.S. Army's ‎2006 LandWarNet Conference at the ‎Broward County Convention Center in ‎Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The luncheon, ‎attended by 350 people, was highlighted by a ‎keynote speech from Lt. Gen. ‎Steven W. Boutelle, chief information ‎officer/G-6, U.S. Department ‎of the Army. Lt. Gen. Boutelle stressed the ‎need for the Army to posture itself for ‎‎"the long war." In particular, he expressed concern over ‎the Army's ability to support the rapid ‎expansion and fielding of capabilities ‎provided by commercial products over ‎a long term. He challenged the ‎audience to develop innovative solutions ‎to meet warfighter requirements in a ‎fiscally austere environment. ‎

Col. Herb Newman, USA, chapter president and ‎director, J-6, U.S. SOUTHCOM, ‎thanked Lt. Gen. Boutelle for his ‎stimulating speech and presented him ‎with an original chapter polo shirt. ‎
