The chapter's August luncheon was held in conjunction with the U.S. Army's 2006 LandWarNet Conference at the Broward County Convention Center in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The luncheon, attended by 350 people, was highlighted by a keynote speech from Lt. Gen. Steven W. Boutelle, chief information officer/G-6, U.S. Department of the Army. Lt. Gen. Boutelle stressed the need for the Army to posture itself for "the long war." In particular, he expressed concern over the Army's ability to support the rapid expansion and fielding of capabilities provided by commercial products over a long term. He challenged the audience to develop innovative solutions to meet warfighter requirements in a fiscally austere environment.
Col. Herb Newman, USA, chapter president and director, J-6, U.S. SOUTHCOM, thanked Lt. Gen. Boutelle for his stimulating speech and presented him with an original chapter polo shirt.
