Certification and Accreditation Challenges Discussed |
Gen. Mike Hostage, USAF, commander, U.S. Air Combat Command, spoke at the chapter's April luncheon. The general briefly communicated the importance of the command, control, communications and computers community and then opened up the floor to address specific questions from the audience. In the exchange, he recognized the challenges with certification and accreditation and the acquisition cycle that continue to be a focus for meeting operational mission requirements. The chapter appreciated the insights and the continued engagement of senior leaders. |

![]() In April, Mike Mitchell, chapter director of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), presents an award to the chapter's featured STEM teacher: Tracey Jones, Heritage High School, Newport News, Virginia. Jones has been teaching biology and chemistry at Heritage High School for almost 11 years. She has a bachelor's of science from Norfolk State University's Dozoretz National Institute for Math and Applied Sciences and a master of science in microbiology at Eastern Virginia Medical School. Jones has been in a collaborative setting with special education students for almost five years. |
![]() Gen. Hostage (c) welcomes a group of students from the Newport News Achievable Dream Academy to the chapter's event in April. Achievable Dream is a nonprofit, year-round, extended day public school born out of the belief that all children can learn and succeed regardless of their socioeconomic backgrounds. |
