SOUTHERN ARIZONA CHAPTER CHAPTER - Sep 28, 2006

In September, Dr. Susan R. Bailey, vice president, AT&T Global Network Operations, discussed how AT&T built a global network operations center. She elaborated on some of the lessons learned from the commercial world and how these lessons might apply to the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD). Some of the many similarities Dr. Bailey cited included having a global network backbone and node; protecting against hackers; and repairing and replacing damaged fiber optic cables

She also explained how AT&T must protect network assets; how they use command and control systems; that the company has continuity of operations and disaster recovery plans; and that they employ a network management hierarchy, similar to the DOD .

In addition, Dr. Bailey gave insight into AT&T's Global Technology Centers of Excellence and its "Concept of One" and "Concept of Zero" efficiencies and defects control.

After the meeting, Ross Romeo received his AFCEA Life Member certificate from Chapter President Larry Singer.
