Event Tackles Cyber and Information Challenges

The chapter, the State University of New York Institute of Technology (SUNYIT) and the Cyber New York Alliance co-sponsored the Cyber & Information Challenges 2012 Conference and Exposition in June with participation from the Air Force Research Laboratory Information Directorate. The three-day event was held at SUNYIT in Marcy, New York. The event explored challenges and research and development opportunities in cyber and information systems and technology for U.S. Air Force and Defense Department applications, and it included an exposition on emerging technologies in cyber and information science. Days one and two led off with a plenary session, which provided more than 350 attendees the opportunity to hear several addresses by senior cyber, science and technology industry leaders and Air Force Research Laboratory senior staff on future challenges and research and development opportunities. During the afternoons, attendees participated in parallel technical sessions in mini-workshop format. The workshops enabled a technical dialog between contractors, government representatives and academia. These dialogues included Air Force Research Laboratory staff and aimed to identify promising collaborations and approaches to solve cyber and information technology problems. On day three, in parallel with the Exposition, the event included Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) topic presentations for fiscal year 2013. The topic managers were available for additional one-on-one discussions with contractors and academics.
