SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND CHAPTER CHAPTER - Oct 19, 2006

Renowned explosives expert Professor Jimmie Oxley, a University of Rhode Island chemistry professor, was the chapter's guest speaker for a luncheon at the Newport Officers Club in October.

Prof. Oxley is frequently called upon to lend her expertise to high profile national and international incidences. She is a founding member of the Rhode Island Forensic Science Partnership.

The chapter awarded an educational grant to teacher Avery Lenhart of the Montessori Discovery School in Norwich, Connecticut. Avery plans to use the money to help her develop her science program for the upper elementary students.

Dr. Gregory Johnson, chapter president, presented an AFCEA scholarship to Air Force ROTC Cadet Mary Hoyer on 31 August 2006. Cadet Hoyer is currently a senior Electrical Engineering major at the University of Connecticut in Storrs. She plans on graduating in May 2008, at which time she will receive a commission into the Air Force as a Second Lieutenant.
