Command Pilot on Cyber

In November, the chapter welcomed Col. Andrew Gebara, USAF, commander, 2nd Bomb Wing, as the guest speaker for its monthly luncheon. Col. Gebara is a command pilot with more than 3,400 flight hours and is responsible for providing combat-ready B-52H aircraft, crews and associated combat support to conduct global operational taskings. Additionally, as Barksdale's installation commander, he supports 40 tenant units, including headquarters, Air Force Global Strike Command; headquarters, 8th Air Force; the 307th Bomb Wing; and the 917th Fighter Group. He promotes the welfare of more than 10,500 military and civilian personnel, 6,500 family members and 25,000 retirees. In his presentation, the colonel expressed his deep appreciation for AFCEA and drew on his rich personal experiences to discuss current and future Air Force cyber capabilities. From his unique vantage point, Col. Gebara enlightened guests with a unique perspective of the operational capabilities provided by B-2 on-board communications equipment, the integration of communication systems with the air operations center and planned upgrades to the B-2 on-board communications systems. The chapter also congratulated Lindsey Hamlin on being elected the new executive director of the Louisiana Technology Council. Hamlin reaffirmed her organization's commitment to building strong ties among government, industry and academia throughout the region.
