TUCSON CHAPTER CHAPTER - Feb 11, 2013

Connecting the Next Generation

In February, Col. Richard Palmieri, USAF, chapter president, director of communications, 12th Air Force, and commander, 612th Air Communications Squadron, spoke to the chapter about the interconnectivity of military and industry in meeting today's challenges with numerous constraints and the importance of training younger generations to anticipate the evolution of governments needs. Highlights of the meeting included awarding the chapter's annual Armed Forces Leadership in Technology Award, a $500 scholarship presented to the most deserving ROTC candidates pursuing a science, technology, engineering or mathematics related degree from each of the three University of Arizona ROTC detachments. In addition, the chapter co-sponsored a Windows 8 First Look event in February with chapter corporate member New Horizons Computer Learning Centers of Southern Arizona. Approximately 65 Defense Department and Department of Homeland Security-affiliated personnel attended and received insight into new features and functionality of the Windows 8 operating system. They received 3 hours of continuing education credits towards DoDD 8570 A+ certification.
