General Discusses Sequestration Impacts

The chapter welcomed Brig. Gen. Thomas Sharpy, USAF, U.S. Air Forces Europe – Air Forces Africa A-5/8/9, as its March luncheon speaker. The chapter had an outstanding turnout and listened to the general discuss the potential impacts of sequestration on the Major Commands and the U.S. Air Force. Additionally, the chapter welcomed its new committee officers and witnessed their swearing in. There are 32 new officers this year, to include a new president, Col. Russell Smith, USAF, and vice presidents, Col. Chris Brooks, USAF, and Lt. Col. John Zapata, USAF. The chapter is eager to carry on the successful results it inherited from the outgoing leadership. Finally, the chapter recognized its latest Emerging Leader Award recipient, Airman 1st Class Michael Pirtle, USAF. Airman 1st Class Pirtle is a Radio Frequency Transmission System technician assigned to the 86th Communication Squadron at Ramstein Air Base. During the month of February, he was integral in resolving multiple European Command, Ballistic Missile Defense and Missile Defense Agency outages.
