Chapter Participates in Digifest South 2013 |
In September, the chapter held its monthly membership luncheon in conjunction with TEDx Red River to kick off DigiFest South 2013 and a new business year for the chapter, with proceeds benefitting The George Rodrigue Foundation of the Arts, DigiFest, the Bossier Arts Council and the chapter. DigiFest South is an annual digital arts festival and tech expo that celebrates how digital technology combined with artistic creativity has helped our modern society progress. Participants included Academy Award winner Moonbot Studios, Sci-Port Louisiana's Science Center and the Robinson Film Center, among many more. The chapter welcomed two renowned guest speakers for the event: Jacques Rodrigue and Maura Thomas. Rodrigue is the son of famed Blue Dog artist George Rodrigue and executive director of the George Rodrigue Foundation of the Arts. He bypassed a career in law to help Louisiana education through arts integration. In his presentation, he traced his father's artistic history and drew parallels of his own career path to emphasize the importance of arts in a well-rounded education to prepare students for a life full of unknown opportunities. The foundation also raffled a personalized, one-of-a-kind print of George Rodrigue's Blue Dogs on the Red River to mark the occasion. Thomas is the founder and chief trainer of RegainYourTime.com and author of “Personal Productivity Secrets.” Her company focuses on attention management and specializes in individual, group, and corporate time management and productivity. In her presentation, Thomas provided a tactical training session of immediately actionable tips that empowered her audience to regain control over the details of their lives and work. She remained after the luncheon to answer questions and autograph copies of her latest book. The chapter's newly elected president, Lt. Col. Deborah Dusek, USAF, served as master of ceremonies for a packed house and thanked both guests for the gracious donation of their time and unique expertise on behalf of the chapter. |
