SOUTH CENTRAL PENNSYLVANIA CHAPTER CHAPTER - Nov 07, 2013

Managing Information in a Contested Environment

The chapter held a monthly luncheon in November with guest speaker David DeVries, deputy Defense Department chief information officer (DOD CIO) for information enterprise. DeVries is a senior executive with broad experience in information technology, information management and command and control systems. He retired from the U.S. Army after serving more than 29 years with a variety of leadership and staff officer experience in operational assignments involving command and control communications as well as information management and technology. He finished his military career leading the creation of enterprise information sharing and information technology capabilities to the Army leadership and major commands throughout the United States. DeVries delivered an insightful presentation about managing information in a contested environment and how the Defense Department is moving ahead with the data center consolidation effort, moving to the cloud, new cyber policy changes and mobility big pictures. He went on to discuss how industry can help with combined efforts from government to protect Defense Department environments from outside adversaries. A donation was made in DeVries' name to the chapter's scholarship fund.
