TUCSON CHAPTER CHAPTER - May 08, 2014

Active Spring for Chapter

The chapter had a very active spring 2014. In February, Maj. Drew Glass, USAF, commander of the 355th Contracting Squadron, shared information on acquisition and competitive sourcing, providing valuable insight to industry partners in the current fiscal climate. The chapter also recognized its STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) grant awardees, awarding grants to Altar Valley Middle School to support a Lego Robotics program for its sixth-grade students and Tanque Verde Elementary to purchase interactive science lab equipment and software for fifth and sixth graders. In March, the chapter hosted Sam Shivers, program manager for U.S. Customs and Border Protection Field Support Directorate, Arizona area, who shared the surveillance and information technology that supports U.S. government border security operations. During April's chapter luncheon, Felisa Hervey, president of Civil Vision International, shared the importance of communication beyond information technology by sharing her experiences serving as the operations officer for more than 350 tactical missions in Afghanistan with the International Security Assistance Force's Anti-Corruption Task Force. In April, longtime AFCEA supporter Dan Curran of New Horizons Learning Center of Southern Arizona shared much-appreciated tips for how to get more functionality with Microsoft Excel. Additionally, Regional Vice President Larry Bingaman presented the AFCEA International Regional Distinguished Young AFCEAN award to Capt. Stacie Voorhees, USAF, and AFCEA International Distinguished Young AFCEAN Award to Master Sgt. Wendee Roberson, USAF.
