The Turkiye Chapter hosted a conference at The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) Headquarters in December called 'Free Software: Pardus Operating System.' Associate Professor Dr. Erkan Tekman, working as a Pardus project manager at the TUBITAK National Research Institute of Electronics And Cryptology (UEKAE) was the guest speaker. Tekman introduced the background and the key points of the free software approach, including the terminology and the phases of the Linux based Pardus Operating System (OS) project. He also gave some examples regarding the applications of Pardus OS loaded on a computer.
Approximately 160 AFCEA members and representatives from Turkish General Staff; Ministry of National Defense; Land, Naval, Air Force and Gendarme Commands; Army Signal School; universities; defense industry; and information technology companies attended the conference.
At the end of the event, Chapter Honorary President Brig. Gen. Aytekin Ziylan, TUA (Ret.), presented the Chapter's certificate of appreciation to Tekman. At the same time, Chapter President Col. Yalcin Onyuru, TUA (Ret.), also presented AFCEA's life member pins and certificates to the chapter's life members, Gen. Ziylan and Erdinc Oguz.
