AFCEA Student Club Members Meet Czech Defense Executives |
A group of AFCEA student club members, along with representatives of both AFCEA International and the Czech Chapter, visited with officials at the Czech University of Defense (UD) in Brno, Czech Republic, in November. UD Rector-Commandant Brig. Gen. Bohuslav Přikryl welcomed Petr Jirásek, regional vice president of AFCEA International; Czech Chapter President Josef Strelec; and Tomas Muller, Czech Chapter vice president for program activities. They discussed educational issues in the areas of cybersecurity and population protection. AFCEA and UD representatives met with the AFCEA Student Club members during the event. Lt. Col Petr Hruza, the University of Defense AFCEA Student Club president, summarized the club's 2014 activities and plans for 2015. The Student Club at the University of Defense was founded in April 2013. The club organized the first "international" meeting of AFCEA student club members from the Czech and Slovak Republics in 2014. Cpl. Miroslav Hovorka, a member of the UD AFCEA Student Club, successfully represented his club at the 6th Student Symposium AFCEA Europe held in Bucharest, Romania, on March 24, 2014. He performed well among the 97 students who presented more than fifty academic projects there and won the "Best Poster Award" with his paper titled "The possibility of using MFD [multifunction display] in air combat missions.“ Perhaps the most important individual success gained by a UD AFCEA student so far is the ”Regional Distinguished Young AFCEAN 2014” award given to Lubomir Almer. Club members participated in several events of the European Cyber Security Month (ECSM) in October 2014. The Student Club, jointly with the National Center for Safer Internet Association, also co-organized a technical seminar titled "Privacy and Security Risks in Cyberspace." UD AFCEA Student Club plans for 2015 include organizational support for a security seminar being held by the UD in Brno, and the club members will co-organize the meeting of European student clubs within the IDET 2015 exhibition in May 2015, on the premises of the Brno Fairgrounds. The club also will continue to participate actively in security seminars in the Czech Republic, and its members will contribute to international conferences. At the end of the meeting, UD Rector-Commandant Brig. Gen. Přikryl presented commemorative badges issued on the occasion of the 10-year anniversary of the University of Defense establishment to Jirasek and Strelec. |
