Event Addresses Challenges, Solutions for Airborne Network Technology

The chapter hosted its Airborne Network Technology Review Days and Expo in June. The Air Force Research Laboratory Information Directorate (AFRL/RI), Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), Information Institute (II), Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) and the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) participated in the 2 1/2-day event, in which industry and government researchers, scientists and engineers discussed the technical challenges of and solutions for airborne network deployment. Keynote speakers were Maj. General Craig S. Olson, USAF, program executive officer (PEO) for C3I and Networks, and Lt. Gen. David A. Deptula, USAF (Ret.), dean of the Mitchell Institute for Aerospace Studies. Included in the tech review days were two industry panels: Future Airborne Capability Environment (FACE) and Open Networking Foundation. The chapter also hosted a technology expo that showcased airborne network research and demonstrations. The event drew more than 250 participants nationwide from government, industry and academia.
