During the chapter's January luncheon, members had the privilege of hearing Kevin Kaufman of CommScope talk about the future of physical layer network infrastructure. He stressed the importance of the physical layer, which is the first layer of the Open System Interconnection (OSI) model. With the growth of big data, the need for higher bandwidth has risen over the years. Kaufman dug into the details of the technology standards based off location. The three types of data transfer mediums he talked about were copper, fiber optics and wireless. Each one has its pros and cons, but is really based off of the customer's needs. This has forced CommScope to stay on its toes and think of hybrid solutions to stay ahead of emerging technologies. This was the first luncheon held by the chapter. By attending monthly meetings, members will benefit not only from inspirational speakers, but will also earn continuing education units towards professional certificates that they hold. |
