New Student Club Established in Portugal

The student chapter was started in 2015. It includes students from the Portuguese Naval Academy and from other university institutions of Almada, namely the faculty of sciences and technology at the New University of Lisbon. Student club activities are focused on the development of sea technologies. The club president is Pedro Castro Fernandes. Tiago Pires and Pedro Sampaio Pereira are first and second vice presidents, and Rodolfo Carapau is the secretary. They are all naval engineer students at the Naval Academy. Professor Victor Lobo, director of the Portuguese Navy Research Center, is the faculty advisor. In March, Rear Adm. Carlos Rodolfo, PRT NA (Ret.), regional vice president, Atlantic Region and chairman of the Portugal chapter, met with the club students at the Naval Academy. Fernandes and Pereira presented the activities initiated in 2015 and plans for 2016. Club membership will provide opportunities for students to communicate with the academic and scientific communities around the world, to participate actively at seminars, symposia, courses and member networking and to engage in scientific projects.
