KAISERSLAUTERN CHAPTER CHAPTER - Mar 18, 2016

Busy Month for Young AFCEANs

As part of the chapter's Young AFCEAN, "Social Series," members and guests had a chance to view a historical landmark in March. Dug 82 feet under a hillside in 1938, the Kindsbach Cave stood as an ammo storage depot for the Wehrmacht. This facility would later be utilized during the Cold War as a key player in the deterrence of nuclear war. Today, this cave stands as a monument to an air war victory by America and its Allies. Members were able to tour the facility as well as receive a synopsis of its past operations from Wolfgang Wuermell, the grandson of the original owner of this historic structure.

Also in March, Kaiserslautern and Eifel Young AFCEANs traveled to Hannover, Germany for CeBIT 2016, the world's largest and most internationally represented technology expo. There they met up with Young AFCEANs from the Bonn E.V. and Tri-Border chapters. Jochen Reinhardt from Bonn E.V. scheduled tours of IBM, Unify and T-Systems where they were able to experience some of the companies' newest innovations and solutions. In between tours, attendees had free time to walk around and see some of the 3,300 contributors from 70 countries and regions. The day was wrapped up with an Oktoberfest-themed dinner at the Munchner Halle.
