FORT KNOX GOLD VAULT CHAPTER CHAPTER - Nov 17, 2016

Red Hat Executive Speaks at Chapter General Meeting

The chapter's September general membership meeting was sponsored by the chapter, CoreSYS Consulting and Red Hat. The event was held at the Gen. George Patton Museum in Fort Knox, Kentucky, and opened with Chapter President Bill Heidenreich sharing announcements with members. During the meeting, members voted to update chapter bylaws to ensure the continued operation of the chapter in the Fort Knox community. Members were informed of the results of the scholarship awards: The Chapter awarded four $1,000 scholarships to local outstanding science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) students and one $1,000 STEM teacher grant. Members were encouraged to nominate colleagues for local and international awards, share chapter benefits with colleagues and invite others to join. The Golf Scramble results were announced and sponsors were recognized. The Golf Scramble included 20 teams (75 individual golfers) and raised $4,500 for the chapter's scholarship program. Members were also encouraged to nominate outstanding colleagues for the upcoming chapter officer elections. Following chapter announcements, the guest speaker was invited to the podium. The guest speaker was Ashesh Badani, vice president and general manager of OpenShift PaaS at Red Hat. Bandani spoke on the topic of software disrupting business. "We must create trust from the digital perspective," he said. Badani said businesses must know their customers and understand the job their customers need to do. "What are the next-generation trends?" he asked. They are microservices that are more agile, with development operations that reach markets faster, with more updates. Badani warned that silos no longer work. To have success, Badani suggested that people must be balanced and work together because the next generation will have the expectation that everything should work together seamlessly. Therefore, Badani concluded, infrastructure must be scaled for growth, and the challenge is to develop tools that provide flexibility and agility in an increasingly complex environment. The chapter's general membership meetings are open to all members and their guests and serve as excellent professional development and networking opportunities. After the event, attendees had the opportunity to speak with Badani and meet the members of the Chapter Executive Committee and board of directors.
