Cyber Implications of Defense's Third Offset Initiative

In November the chapter welcomed Lt. Gen. Bill Lord, USAF (Ret.) as its guest speaker. Gen. Lord was the Air Force's chief information officer and chief of warfighting integration from 2009 until his retirement in 2012. He was responsible for 30,000 personnel providing information technology services for the entire Air Force with a budget of $8 billion. He spoke about the value of cyber and iformation technology operations in the USAFCENT area of operations and how, perhaps, those technologies could be pivotal in the Secretary of Defense's third offset initiative. He praised both 9th Air Force and USAFCENT's on-going work in Southwest Asia and opined that the resources necessary for winning that fight ought to be enhanced. Gen. Lord commented on the progress the Air Force has made in professionalizing the career fields dedicated to Air Force and joint cyber work.
