Chapter Honors Defense Department CIO

The chapter's February luncheon featured the Defense Department's chief information officer, Terry Halvorsen, and Gary Wang, deputy chief information officer/G-6. Halvorsen retires from his post February 28. Chapter Past President Chuck Corjay presented Halvorsen the AFCEA Special Recognition Gold Eagle Award for his support of the chapter. Wang discussed the challenges he faces and future investments, including focus areas for fiscal year 2017, such as enterprise services, infrastructure and network modernization. The chapter also recognized the contributions of Young AFCEANs Katie Aceto and Melissa Shaw from Deltek. Aceto has been volunteering at chapter lunches for three years. Recently, she supported the Luncheon Committee and was a registration volunteer. She also has served as the point of contact for Herndon High School in the AFCEA Adopt-a-School Program. Shaw has served the chapter in many capacities for the past four years through the Luncheon Committee, IT Days and the Mentor Protégé Program.
