In February Col. Betsy Checchia, USAR, spoke on the topic of intelligence support to homeland security. Col. Checchia is the director of Intelligence Support to Homeland Security (ISHLS), part of the US Army Intelligence Center (USAIC) Capabilities Development and Integration Directorate. Col. Checchia discussed her office's focus on development, coordination and management of intelligence support (including training, planning, and operations) to the homeland security community. In addition, she said their mission is to ensure USAIC's efforts are coordinated and effective in determining the needs of the community, including the Defense Department, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and other federal, state, local, tribal and private organizations. She emphasized meeting needs using all necessary USAIC resources; future efforts include expansion to provide additional support and expertise in concept and systems development, and coordinating other capabilities located at Fort Huachuca, Arizona. |
