Robotics and Unmanned Aerial Systems Capture Student Interest |
The chapter joined the second AFCEA student clubs meeting in June in Lisbon, Portugal. In the meeting the Covilha Student Chapter, located at the University of Beira Interior, was represented by professor Jorge Reis Silva, faculty adviser, and the chapter's new board. Luis Trindade, chapter president, made a presentation focused on the activities of chapter members. It included, in particular, the following: the assessment of infrastructure and complex systems; a robot with the ability to chase aircraft; the project titled "Multifunctional Air Transport System," consisting of a hybrid airship that can be used for air surveillance of civilian and military areas; the "Olharapo," an aircraft used as a test vehicle for the study of a telescoping wing; a solar unmanned aerial vehicle, which uses photovoltaic cells as an energy source; and the Shell Eco Marathon project, that allowed the development of an innovative electric motor for an ecologic prototype car. |
