High School Cyber Competition Draws More Than 3,000 Students

The first round of the Czech High School Cyber Security Competition completed successfully in November, and the official results are published at www.kybersoutez.cz. The competition is organized by AFCEA's Czech Cyber Security Working Group as well as several state, academic and professional organizations. More than 3,000 participants took part in the first round of the competition, which is in its second year. All the competition criteria were met by 2,053 students from 86 secondary schools. Going forward to the second round of competition are 1,852 representatives from all regions of the Czech Republic. South Moravia, Prague, Pilsen and Karlsbad will have the most students competing in the second round. Students from technology-oriented schools and from language, health and hotel-management schools attended the first round. Some schools sent individuals to compete, and others sent large groups of participants. The Secondary School of Informatics and Communications in Brno had the most participants. During the first-round evaluation process, Competition Committee members visited schools with more than 50 participants and with top performers. The visits gave the schools an opportunity to distribute award certificates and to organize discussions about cybersecurity. Members of the Competition Committee plan to visit more than 40 schools from November 6 to December 20. Students in the second round of competition will get prizes, including access to many study materials on cybersecurity from professional partners. The second round takes place January 1 through February 9 and will require more substantial preparation because it will be more demanding, technical and partly in English. Participants will strive to advance to national finals April 19 at the Police Academy of the Czech Republic in Prague. For more information, visit www.kybersoutez.cz.
