DCATS Project Manager Discusses Network Priorities |
At a January chapter luncheon, Col. Enrique Costas, USA, project manager for Defense Communications and Army Transmission Systems (PM DCATS), gave an overview of his projects, network priorities and ways to gain efficiency. The mission of PM DCATS is to deliver and sustain strategic communications capabilities for the Army and the U.S. Defense Department to enable information dominance. The DCATS vision is to be the recognized expert and trusted provider of national strategic communications transport infrastructure capabilities for the Army and the Defense Department enterprise. Col. Costas addressed future network priorities for accomplishing the DCATS mission and vision. The current network is too complex, not expeditionary, fragile and vulnerable, too easy to detect and jam, difficult to secure and not optimized, he said. The colonel plans to optimize information technology resourcing by driving efficiencies that reduce risk and increase effectiveness. The future network will be survivable and protected, intuitive, standards-based, inter-operable and sustainable. Col. Costas and his team will focus on gaining efficiency in their processes through acquisition agility, total asset management visibility, industry innovation and talent management. Slides from the colonel's presentation are available on the chapter's website. |
