Chapter Sponsors First SkillsUSA Competition

The chapter sponsored its first SkillsUSA competition in April, which was a success among the military community of the Kaiserslautern, Germany, area. SkillsUSA is a national membership association helping middle school, high school and college students prepare for careers in trade, technical and skilled service occupations, and for further education. Seventy students participated in a competition with first-, second-, and third-place prizes ranging from gift cards to Apple Watches, Samsung cameras, JBL Bluetooth speakers and more. Competitions such as SkillsUSA are critical to invigorating the careers in trade, technical and skilled service occupation programs within local schools. They provide an opportunity for students to grow their technical knowledge, to exercise their boundless creativity and to strengthen their problem-solving skills. These skills will serve them well in whatever future they choose. Because of the great participation of students and volunteers, the chapter expects to hold a SkillsUSA event annually around the April time frame.
