Chapter Aids Local CyberPatriot Competitor

An August chapter award enabled Ohio's Dayton Regional STEM School (DRSS) to purchase three powerful computers that students will use in the annual CyberPatriot National Youth Cyber Defense Competition. CyberPatriot is a national organization that inspires K-12 students to pursue careers in cybersecurity or other STEM disciplines. The competition puts teams of high school and middle school students in the position of newly hired information technology professionals tasked with managing the network of a small company. Robert Orenbaun, the chapter's education outreach chair, shared that "AFCEA is pleased to be in a position to help DRSS students succeed and grow into talented and competent future members of the STEM and cybersecurity workforce." The chapter is focused on supporting organizations with imminent needs that rise to the challenge, such as the DRSS. Chapter President Dennis Drayer stated: "The chapter is pleased to support local students pursuing career goals and career development opportunities. Cybersecurity is a key industry to our nation's security, so we're glad to see the Dayton Regional STEM School students hone their skills while enjoying the spirit of competition."
