Young AFCEAN Tech Expo Kickoff Raises $1,000 for STEM Education

The chapter kicked off its Summer Tech Expo week in July with a Young AFCEAN social at the Belgian Bistro. The annual event saw its biggest turnout, with 94 attendees, and raised $1,000 for the Cycle for STEM event in August. Cycle for STEM proceeds support the AFCEA Educational Foundation to provide scholarships and grants to deserving STEM students and teachers. Attendees from industry, academia and the military were provided opportunities to network over food and games. Tech. Sgt. Thomas Giddings, USAF, led this year's event and was able to secure sponsorship from Dell, NetApp and Verizon. The Women's Committee is dedicated to reaching out to the community to help promote STEM education as well. It even enlisted the assistance of its youngest volunteers: Senior Airman Sidney Rodriguez, USAF, and daughter Reina, 5, helped raise money for Cycle for STEM during the Tech Expo kickoff. Efforts like these not only support important events but also allow members to network and share knowledge.
