Young AFCEANs Partner with Government Young Professional Group

The chapter's Young AFCEANs (YACs) have partnered with the U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Command (CECOM) Junior Advisory Council (JAC) to present a series of Lunch and Learn, aimed at bringing together young professionals from industry and government for collaborative professional development events. The first event in this series, held in December 2018, featured special guest speaker Brig. Gen. Guy Walsh, USAF (Ret.), who currently serves as an advisor in the Strategic Initiatives Division within the U.S. Cyber Command (CYBERCOM). Gen. Walsh provided the captivated audience with a brief history of U.S. CYBERCOM and his involvement within the organization. CYBERCOM's number one job is ensuring protection of the Department of Defense Information Network. To accomplish this mission, the organization works closely with the Nation's 17 critical infrastructure industries (which have lately come to include elections) and partner nations throughout the world. Gen. Walsh stated that his biggest challenges within CYBERCOM stem from obtaining the appropriate high-level clearances for new staff, sharing information between organizations and changing the culture within the organization, and turning his support staff and engineering team into warfighters sworn to protect our nation's cyber landscape. He also provided helpful career advice for young professionals looking to work with CYBERCOM in the future. The chapter's YACs look forward to future collaborations with the JACs to bring more interesting, relevant topics to light for the next generation of leaders.
